Majority of Fortune 500 Companies Provide Sexual Orientation Nondiscrimination

Major corporations are increasingly saying that discrimination based on sexual orientation will not be tolerated in the workplace. According to a new report out from LGBT civil rights organization Equality Forum, 471 (94.2 percent) of the 2008 list of Fortune 500 companies voluntarily include sexual orientation in their employment nondiscrimination policies. The latest results suggest a marked increase in the number of companies embracing sexual orientation nondiscrimination policies since Equality Forum began contacting Fortune 500 companies five years ago.

Tennis Star Andy Roddick Engaged to Model Brooklyn Decker

Tennis star and gay fan favorite Andy Roddick has finally decided to take the plunge and get hitched. Roddick announced late last week that he and girlfriend, model Brooklyn Decker, plan to wed sometime next year in Texas. Good news for the tennis phenom, who cause a bit of a stir yesterday at the U.S. Open. Known for his rocket serve, Roddick pounced on opponent Fabrice Santoro in the opening round at Flushing Meadows.

Majority of Californians Favor Gay Marriage in New Poll

More than half of California’s voters will say no to Proposition 8, the state's proposed ban on same-sex marriage, according to a poll conducted by the Public Policy of California, the results of which were released Wednesday. A promising trend indicates that there’s a narrowing gap between supporters of gay marriage and its opponents, whose support to back the proposition to ban equal marriage rights is beginning to wane.

Gustav Threatens New Orleans on Third Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

As Gustav barrels towards the Gulf Coast, the organizers of New Orleans' Southern Decadence gay celebration are watching its every move. Three years ago, the festival was cancelled when Hurricane Katrina hit the city full-force, resulting in one of the nation’s most devastating natural disasters. Although Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has already declared a state of emergency to prepare for a possible Gustav hit, so far Southern Decadence organizers say the celebration is still on track.

Bill Clinton Declares Obama is Ready to Lead

Addressing the Democratic National Convention last night, former president Bill Clinton declared that democratic presidential nominee, 'Barack Obama is ready to lead America and to restore American leadership in the world.' Ending weeks of speculation about a rift between the former president and the Illinois senator, Clinton not only urged his wife’s supporters to get behind Obama, but also lavishly praised and enthusiastically endorsed Obama in what was one of the most rousing speeches given at the Democratic National Convention thus far.

NBC Issues Apology Over Coverage of Gay Diver Matthew Mitcham

Well aware that the world was fervently disappointed that Olympic golden gay boy Matthew Mitcham did not receive the coverage he deserved at the Olympic Games, NBC issued a statement on Wednesday apologizing for the lack of coverage. Outside of the fact that Mitcham is gay, he carries with him a fantastic story. After taking time off and considering retiring, he came back to win gold over a powerful Chinese team that was highly expected to win the top prize.

Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps to Host Saturday Night Live

For the past several weeks he’s been the most talked about person on the planet. Now, eight-time gold medal winner Michael Phelps will show off his comedy chops as host of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, when the show premieres its 34th season on September 13th. The world has seen his athletic prowess. Now we’ll see how Phelps does up against the likes of Amy Poehler.

Legendary Lesbian Activist Del Martin Dies

Legendary lesbian activist Del Martin died on Wednesday morning at the age of 87. Her lifelong partner Phyllis Lyon, whom she married legally at last in California in June, was by her side. Martin and Lyon co-founded the nation’s first national advocacy group for lesbians, the Daughters of Bilitis, in 1955. Martin and Lyon were the first same-sex couple to legally wed in San Francisco on June 16 in a ceremony officiated by Mayor Gavin Newsome at City Hall.

One Day at a Time Star Mackenzie Phillips Allegedly Busted for Coke and Heroin at LAX

Has Mackenzie Phillips pulled a Tatum O’Neal? The former One Day at a Time star and supposedly recovering addict was busted at Los Angeles International Airport on cocaine and heroin possession Wednesday morning, according to TMZ.com. The actress, who has battled drugs since her sitcom days in the seventies, is the daughter of Mamas and Papas founder and singer John Phillips.
